What Garage Motor Do I Need?

Choosing the right motor for your garage door can be confusing especially if you are not certain what type of garage door you have. Lets take a look below at the different types of garage doors there are and which motors would suite you best!

Sectional Garage Doors

It is literally in the name "Sectional", the garage itself breaks up into panels when opening and closing.

Sectional door is one of the most popular and secure garage door types on the market today.
It’s made up of horizontal panels (sections) that are connected by hinges. When opening, these panels lift vertically and curve up along the ceiling, saving space both inside and outside your garage.

Tipup Garage Doors

A Tip-Up garage door (also called an “up-and-over” door) is a single solid panel door that opens by tilting outward and then lifting up into the garage ceiling.

  • The door is made of one large panel

  • When opening, the bottom of the door swings outward slightly

  • Then the whole door tilts up and rests horizontally inside the garage

  • It operates using spring or counterweight mechanisms to make lifting easier

Roll-up Garage Doors

A Roll-Up garage door is a door made up of horizontal slats that roll up into a compact coil above the garage opening.

  • The door is made of multiple narrow slats (usually steel or aluminium)

  • When opening, the slats roll upward and wrap into a drum/coil mounted above the doorway
